About me
Hi, I'm Madeline Manarin. I'm a Registered Psychotherapist based in Ottawa, Ontario.
I provide in-person therapy to folks based in Ottawa, and virtual therapy across Ontario.
I truly believe that relationships can be healing. My practice aims to create a space where you can be seen, understood, respected, and never judged, and that the safety created will itself be therapeutic. If you could hate yourself into a version of you that you loved, you'd have done it by now. Maybe it's time to try something new. I'd be happy to lend you my compassion, safety, and empathy until you can cultivate your own.
Areas of Focus
Have you ever been annoyed about how your anxiety shows up, or feel powerless to manage it when it does?
My approach focuses on getting curious about the role your anxiety plays (or has played) in your life. Together, we can explore how it's getting in the way of the life you want to live, and ways to navigate it so it doesn't feel as overwhelming. I'd love to help you better understand your anxiety so that you might approach it with curiosity rather than resentment.
Do you find yourself being kind and compassionate toward other people, but struggling to show yourself that same level of care?
Do you have a really loud inner critic that makes you believe you can't do anything right?
Is there a part of you that really doesn't like yourself, and you're not entirely sure that you want to keep believing that?
I work from a compassion-focused lens to help you harness the kindness and empathy that you show others and turn it inward. Together, we could learn more about your inner critic and explore ways to stand up to it so that it's not the only voice in your head. I'm happy to let you borrow my compassion until you can become your own cheerleader.
Have you noticed that dieting and trying to control your food intake isn't leading to the kind of relationship you want to have with food?
Or maybe you're looking to finally feel more comfortable in your body, after constantly getting messages from society that the only way to do that is to shrink.
I believe that health exists at every size. I work from a weight-inclusive, anti-diet approach that aims to help you recognize the impact that diet culture has had on your relationship with food and body. Together, we can differentiate what you were taught to believe from what you actually believe, and explore ways to gain confidence in your skin.
I know how exhausting it can be to constantly feel the need to be perfect. Whether it's about getting top grades at school, pretending to feel okay when you're screaming inside, or beating yourself up when you make a mistake.
You deserve the opportunity to let your guard down and have a space where you don't have to perform all the time.
I'd be honoured to help you explore whether perfectionism is working for or against you, and redefine what actually matters to you.
Change is inevitable. Whether you're starting school or graduating, changing careers, changing relationships, moving to a new apartment or city, gaining new responsibilities, or struggling with new health challenges, change can be really hard.
I want you to know that you don't have to do it alone. We can navigate this change together, on your terms, and at your pace. With room to identify and express your feelings, you can show up as your full human self and we can explore next steps together.
